25 Unicorn Street, Saturday

Something Was Coming.

Her head hurt like a bitch. Kerrigan was not getting off the couch, not anytime today, maybe not even anytime tomorrow. If this was another disease, or a wave of stone angels, or tiny knights, or... singing, she didn't want to know.

She was staying home. Even if it did mean living off a ration of neon pink soda.

Of course, one of the most important things she needed to do today was to pay Mommy Kerrigan a visit. River knocked loudly on the door. She had important things to discuss after all.

It was a healthy sense of dread that followed Kerrigan to the door. Thoughts were-- familiar, but...

She pulled open the door. "Oh, fucking hell."

Appropriate language around minors? Keep on dreaming.

River beamed at her. "I brought apples. And I've made up new dance steps. And you probably shouldn't swear in front of me." Her parents would find that upsetting, not that she did. With determination she tried to get past Kerrigan into the house. And even though Kerrigan could usually keep River out of her mind, today that was completely unnecessary, as the girl stayed firmly in her own mind.

Kerrigan was a little too busy being-- well, surprised was the word, really, or maybe just completely and utterly horrified, to keep the girl from skittering right past her.

"...Don't break anything!" she called after River.

"Won't," River called back, dancing into the living room. "You have cake?" She stopped in the middle of the room and dropped her bag, then began to practice her dance steps, waiting for Kerrigan to follow.

"I've got... green..." She just wasn't sure if the cake was edible anymore. Suppressing whatever sense of double-you-tee-eff she could manage, Kerrigan stalked slowly into the living room, crossing her arms automatically. "...You can drink that," she nodded at the bottle of... fizz.

"Oh!" River grabbed the bottle, then held it up to Kerrigan. "You have to open it. Did you know I had knives? I can dance with them." She seemed quite proud of this.

"Let's not let it get to that point," Kerrigan muttered, reaching over for the bottle, and-- ceremoniously-- pulling the lid off. "There you go."

But River had already pulled out a toy knife out of her bag. "Look," she said, waving the knife before taking the drink.

"Could you please put that away?" Kerrigan asked, scratching at her head.

Christ. Kids.

River was drinking the fizzy drink at the same timr as she poked Kerrigan's leg with the toy knife and said: "Why?" These actions didn't quite work simultaneously.

"Because the real ones are dangerous--"

Oh, if she was going to have to avoid fizzy drink spillage, she was going to be angry.

"--And you can't do all of that at the same time."
