25 Unicorn Street, Saturday Morning

The house was steadily becoming emptier. It hadn't been very full to begin with, but as she slowly pawned off, packed, or otherwise removed the few belongings that had been around, it was...

It seemed to be getting bigger.

Now, Kerrigan sat quietly on the couch, Mustang-the-kitten making a home of her lap, and stared at the wall.

"So much for stealth," Kerrigan said, dryly. She found a spot to sit on-- floor, but that wasn't anything out of the usual. "You came here through a portal. That qualifies as interesting."

And shot Harriet a look. "You don't want to know."

"He reads my mind. Need to hide for the weekend." If this was anything like last year the kids would be gone soon enough. She glanced at the girl. "Harmless?"

"She mostly just plays with the cat," Kerrigan said. She was-- nervous, but it wasn't showing at all. In fact, she stood straighter than she usually did, shoulders locked. "And I don't think she's psionic."

Harriet gave her a dry smile in return. "It sounds as if, in her version of the future, at least, I don't have a choice."

She hadn't picked up much from Lauren, being too preoccupied with her own problems. And Kerrigan kept her secrets. "Who's her father?" she asked.

[identity profile] on-her-korhal.livejournal.com 2008-04-26 08:27 pm (UTC)(link)
"Me neither," Kerrigan said, slamming back another sip of coffee.

"No father," Kerrigan muttered, rolling her eyes towards the ceiling. "Just a fun trick of nature." She let the memory of Dean Jones coming by with the girl drift by idly, focusing not on details but people, places.

Lee had a little boy on his shoulders and he'd been too afraid to let go of him even when arriving at Kerrigan's front door so he kicked the door.

It served as a knock.

Will giggled and clung to his dad's shoulders.

Again, it was Lauren who opened the door. She was good at it. "Hi," she said, "Are you going to ignore me too? Because I can be sneaky."

River blinked, then nodded. Perhaps she should be thankful that she hadn't ended up with a child with Adah. On the other hand, Lee?! She shook her head. "Can I stay here?"

[identity profile] stupid-toasters.livejournal.com 2008-04-26 08:36 pm (UTC)(link)
"We're not going to ignore you," Lee said, looking down and smiling. "I'm Lee. And this is...well, my son, William. Will. Who're you?"

[identity profile] idontlooktired.livejournal.com 2008-04-26 08:36 pm (UTC)(link)
"Stand easy, Lieutenant," she murmured over her tea. "It won't last."

[identity profile] mymumkicksass.livejournal.com 2008-04-26 08:37 pm (UTC)(link)
"Lauren Rachel Jones who thinks she knows," Lauren said, fluidly. It was totally her callsign. "Hi Lee and William!"

"Sure."

Kerrigan blinked. Just the once, really, a tiny thing. "Always."

[identity profile] on-her-korhal.livejournal.com 2008-04-26 08:39 pm (UTC)(link)
"I know," she replied, without any emotion whatsoever. "She can stay here. I've got an extra room."

River smiled back. Thank you. She sighed in relief and sank down on a chair.

"We're here to see grandma Kerrigan," Will added helpfully, waving a toy viper in one hand and a banana in the other.

"Like I said." She threw Lauren another look. I don't know what to do with her.

[identity profile] mymumkicksass.livejournal.com 2008-04-26 08:44 pm (UTC)(link)
"Mom's in the back." Lauren nodded in that direction to make it absolutely completely utterly clear. "But I'm not supposed to just let people in so you've gotta give me a report."

[identity profile] stupid-toasters.livejournal.com 2008-04-26 08:45 pm (UTC)(link)
"A report?" Lee repeated. "Uh. Well, can you report that she's got a grandson that wants to see her and specially requested me to bring him over here?"

[identity profile] idontlooktired.livejournal.com 2008-04-26 08:47 pm (UTC)(link)
"I'll be back. I won't leave you to look after her yourself." Harriet took a longer sip of her tea, almost a gulp, the extra a welcome warmth. "If you could find out exactly how this came to pass, it would be appreciated."

As if River would know. She will need food eventually. And some place to sleep. Otherwise leave her to the kitten.

[identity profile] mymumkicksass.livejournal.com 2008-04-26 08:48 pm (UTC)(link)
Lauren squinted.

Well, that was sort of a report, wasn't it? "MOM! BROTHER'S HERE TO SEE YOU!"

[identity profile] on-her-korhal.livejournal.com 2008-04-26 08:49 pm (UTC)(link)
Kerrigan rubbed at her face with one hand, closing her eyes. "Sure," she said, "One not-an-interrogation, coming up right ahead."
