She'd been staring impassively at her transmitter all day. It had been dead since Jimmy's last communique, like she'd been forgotten. Weeks and weeks and weeks, and all Kerrigan had gotten was-- what, again?

Being forgotten.

The rage hadn't gone away yet: with every visit, she put on a smile, lifted her arm like a human being, gave honest answers and blinked just often enough for anyone to take her for human.

She was starting to want to scream, but that would probably break a wall. And so Sarah Kerrigan sat, just sat, perched on the floor, her wings open and her eyes set on the transmitter.

"He didn't say what he was doing?" he asked, watching her carefully. "Is there a chance he's too far away to be able to contact you?"

"He managed to contact me last time," Kerrigan said, and her head tilted at Roy for a long, steady look. "And no, he didn't."

That was something that would frustrate him too. "He might be dumb enough to think he's protecting you like this."

"If he is," she said, with a hint of cool anger that just skimmed the edge of her rage, "I'm tearing his head off."

Roy glanced at her. "I suppose that's one way to convince him of the error of his ways."

"I'm not going to be left behind again," she said simply, and tossed her tub at the trashcan in the corner.

Roy wasn't sure if she was referring to what had happened at New Gettysburg or something else entirely. "I don't think he's trying to leave you behind," he said quietly.

She wasn't looking at him anymore, though. "Do you know where they found me?" she asked, neutrally, "The first-- well, not the first time. The first time is a different story."

He remembered her telling him about how Mengsk found her and what happened to her family, but not this. "No, I don't think you did."

"I was done as a Ghost," she said, "They wrote me off. That's why Arcturus found me." Kerrigan tossed the spoon after the tub. "They left me to some half-life of constant amnesia, nightmares, and this Zerg-- thing they let into my cell every damn day to see how it'd react."

She sat back, considering Roy with an almost alien look in her eyes, devoid of much human emotion. "Time passes. I wind up done as Arcturus's lackey. He wrote me off. Same thing, except now somebody else digs me out..."

Roy held her gaze, refusing to back up on this. He couldn't change the path and he doubted she wanted sympathy, so he just offered what he knew. "No one who got you out of there now is intending to write you off. Not Raynor and not anyone here. There's a reason he hasn't been in contact, you know what it's like to be in the front lines."

"He's sent me off here to get me out of his hair," she said simply, easing up, and some of the humanity slipped back into her features. "There's only so many times people can kick you back into a nightmare before you start to feel like maybe you belong there."

"He was worried," Roy countered, knowing it wasn't what she wanted to hear either but there was a difference. He didn't know what to say about the other part.

He didn't think she deserved a nightmare, but then it was hypocrite to call someone on it when he was half caught between thinking he belonged there just as much and reaching for something more.

She shook her head once, settling back as her whole body seemed to cave in on itself all at once. "That's what I thought," Kerrigan said, smiling wryly.

She was looking at the ceiling.

"Does that mean you believe in equivalence now?" Roy asked, putting the tub aside.

"I don't think life would pan out very well for me if it was true."

Roy let out a breath as he settled back on the couch. "I wouldn't bet on that," he replied, thinking she'd had more than enough of her share.

She didn't look up to face him again. "Yeah, well," Kerrigan said, "You're not a betting man."

"No," he agreed. "I'm more likely to lose than to win money."
