And now! Just to join the bandwagon, the OOC skinny on Kerrigan.

StarCraft, for the unenlightened, is an extremely popular real-time strategy game that's been around since time immemorial. Or 1997, which might as well be the bronze age as far as gaming is concerned.

StarCraft and its add-on/sequel, Brood War, tell the story of the Koprulu Sector and the three warring races within it, the Terrans (exiled humans who started their own colonies far away from Earth), the Protoss (ancient psychic aliens) and the Zerg (think BORG meets Alien). In the end, the Zerg make rocks fall and almost everybody dies, but that's not important for this exercise.

What is important is the Terrans and their complete inability to stop beating eachother with sharp sticks/shooty weapons all the time, which is kind of problematic when you're also at war with two alien races. Actually, in extended canon, the Koprulu Sector - which is essentially the Terran sector, everybody else is just, er, visiting - is described best in the following travel note:

"TRAVEL NOTE: A sudden influx of tourists, coupled with the discovery of considerable mineral wealth on the planet, has left the ecology of Helioc III in a less than optimal state. Once the use of tactical nuclear weaponry has subsided, however, geologists expect a high level of planetary recovery!"

..Yes. Currently ruling Koprulu is the Terran Confederacy, a society ruled by the Old Families that made the mistake of bombing the shit out of a little planet called Korhal. The surviving Korhalians did not take it well (obviously) and began a paramilitary organisation called the Sons of Korhal, lead by Arcturus Mengsk.

They've been fighting the Confederates ever since.

Lieutenant Sarah Kerrigan (or 'Kerrigan', as she is most commonly known as) was born the Koprulu sector's most powerful Terran telepath and telekinetic. Unfortunately, she was unable to control her powers; at eight, she killed her own mother and turned her father into a houseplant. Next thing she knew, she was being shipped off to the Confederate Ghost program, a training plant for elite psychic stealth agents.

She wasn't exactly happy there. In fact, she did her utmost best to keep from using her own powers. Years upon years of restrictive training and technology later, she was sufficiently cowed to work for the Confederacy as an assassin and reconnaissance agent. Eventually, however, she was reassigned as a lab rat for a team of scientists who were researching ways to control the Zerg.

She was the only Ghost who survived. Fortunately, she was saved from the program by Arcturus Mengsk (yes, that Arcturus Mengsk) and became second-in-command for the Sons of Korhal, despite being one of the three Ghosts who had carried out the mission to kill Mengsk's father. In the process, she would strike up a flirty friendship with Marshal James Raynor, who joined the Sons after his planet was left to the Protoss by the Confederacy.

It's in this situation that Kerrigan finds herself pulled into a Protoss Warp Gate, several weeks before the Battle of New Gettysburg (which will wreak havoc on her personal status quo, about which I won't spoil you except to say that this is why you don't piss off the universe's most powerful psychic), and, finally, in Fandom.

Kerrigan's personable enough, but she keeps her distance. Her first loyalties remain with the Sons of Korhal, although for the time being her second loyalties are with the school. She will not do or say anything that would compromise the position of the Sons of Korhal in her universe, and hence may not always be particularly chatty. Despite a fiery independent streak, she's a good person to have around in a combat situation, as she's professional, well-trained and very deadly.

She also snarks a lot. In a flirty deadly female assassin sort of way.

Kerrigan is telepathic. Her powers have been supressed by training to the point where she won't be able to pick up on anything unless it's close by and she's susceptible to psi-shields, but she's still pretty powerful (ie - no psi shield of some kind, she can probably read you and theoretically do nasty things to your head). There's going to be an OCD on this post where you can tag in about whether or not she'd be able to hear you or not so we don't get into nasty Will She or Won't She situations, but of course iffy stuff will be cleared OOCly, so don't worry.

She's also telekinetic, but her training has forced her to channel that into extra durability, stamina and speed. Finally, her Ghost suit - which she will only wear in combat situations and which will only show up in an altered state in her class as she won't compromise the Sons - allows her to cloak (become invisible to the naked eye and non-advanced scanners) as well as carry all sorts of nifty weaponry.

Mind, none of this is anything she will be shouting off the rooftops about (due to tactical reasons, not because they're Big Dark Secrets, although she doesn't talk about her history much as a rule), so it won't be general IC knowledge unless explicitly made that way.

Aaand that's about it. Fancy OCD for will-she-or-won't-she telepath stuff follows nao.
