Kerrigan's Office, Wednesday

Kerrigan was starting to consider setting up shop permanently in her office. At least there, the chance of something happening was something greater than in her house. It had been an oasis of silence for over a year, but now it was too loud in its quiet.

She needed something to focus on, and so the door was open again, and she was sat one inch too straightly in her chair, waiting.

[ open hours! ]

Lee didn't think she was waiting for him but hey, unannounced office visits were fun and he hadn't visited in awhile.

So, he popped up in her doorway, grinning. "Morning!"

Her back jerked up, and her head moved along with it. Kerrigan blinked once, then shook it off. "Adama," she said, "You're cheerful this morning."

"I try to be cheerful as often as I can," he said, shrugging. "Maybe I just got up on the right side of the bed."

"I shudder to think of what happens when you fall out the other side," she replied, settling back.

[identity profile] stupid-toasters.livejournal.com 2008-07-30 11:58 am (UTC)(link)
"I try not to let that happen," he said and shrugged. "How are you doing?"

[identity profile] on-her-korhal.livejournal.com 2008-07-30 12:00 pm (UTC)(link)
"The usual," Kerrigan said, frankly. There was no point in bothering Lee with the details: even telling Harriet had just made it worse. "I see you haven't managed to get yourself bludgeoned in my class yet."

[identity profile] stupid-toasters.livejournal.com 2008-07-30 12:07 pm (UTC)(link)
"Did you expect me to?" he asked, one eyebrow going up.

[identity profile] on-her-korhal.livejournal.com 2008-07-30 01:08 pm (UTC)(link)
"With you," she said, with a snort, "I like to expect the expectable."

[identity profile] stupid-toasters.livejournal.com 2008-07-30 01:30 pm (UTC)(link)
"Maybe I turned over a new leaf," he said, smirking.

[identity profile] on-her-korhal.livejournal.com 2008-07-30 01:39 pm (UTC)(link)
Kerrigan raised an eyebrow. "I'm not counting on it," she said, mildly. "So how're you, pipsqueak?"

[identity profile] stupid-toasters.livejournal.com 2008-07-30 01:53 pm (UTC)(link)
"I look forward to surprising you," he said lightly. "And I'm fine. Can't complain. The magical traveling island makes things different all the time so I don't get bored. Everything else, I just try and forget about."

"That's healthy," said the queen of healthy coping strategies. "I haven't checked anything out yet. As long as it's not raining bears..."

[identity profile] stupid-toasters.livejournal.com 2008-07-30 02:04 pm (UTC)(link)
"It's worked for me so far," he said and shrugged. "Wasn't it raining bears yesterday? Did you get hit by one?"

Because damn, he was sorry he missed that if she had.

Hoshi appeared in the doorway, clutching the paper she'd finished last night. "Professor Kerrigan? I've finished that assignment you gave me."

[identity profile] on-her-korhal.livejournal.com 2008-07-30 04:19 pm (UTC)(link)
She blinked once, then offered Hoshi a nod. "Come in," Kerrigan said, "Over here, please."

[identity profile] itsjustlanguage.livejournal.com 2008-07-30 04:23 pm (UTC)(link)
Hoshi entered the office. "I'm not that familiar with using stealth myself, but I was able to incorporate a few of my own experiences when I needed to be stealthy," she said.

[identity profile] on-her-korhal.livejournal.com 2008-07-30 04:24 pm (UTC)(link)
"That's something," Kerrigan muttered, rubbing at her temple. "At least you got it done."

[identity profile] itsjustlanguage.livejournal.com 2008-07-30 04:26 pm (UTC)(link)
"Oh, I always finish my assignments," said Hoshi. "I've never missed a class before, except when I had the plague and they wouldn't let me leave the clinic. Last week was not like me at all."

[identity profile] on-her-korhal.livejournal.com 2008-07-30 04:29 pm (UTC)(link)
"...Was there another brain-swapping experiment?"

What? It never hurt to ask.

[identity profile] itsjustlanguage.livejournal.com 2008-07-30 04:32 pm (UTC)(link)
"Not that I was aware of," said Hoshi. "Although really, in this town, I suppose anything is possible."

[identity profile] on-her-korhal.livejournal.com 2008-07-30 04:38 pm (UTC)(link)
"Just checking," she said, rubbing her temple again. She reached in the general direction of the paper. "Alien intervention?"

[identity profile] itsjustlanguage.livejournal.com 2008-07-30 04:42 pm (UTC)(link)
"Well, someone gave me an alien book to translate, then tried to imply that it was too difficult for me," said Hoshi, handing over the paper. "That's why I stuck with it as long as I did. I was too stubborn to admit that I couldn't do it easily."

[identity profile] on-her-korhal.livejournal.com 2008-07-30 04:45 pm (UTC)(link)
Kerrigan slapped the paper down on her desk. To be read. Slowly. As a distraction. "Next time," she said, "Remember you've actually got classes beyond translating."

[identity profile] itsjustlanguage.livejournal.com 2008-07-30 04:47 pm (UTC)(link)
"Yes ma'am. I won't make that mistake again," said Hoshi.

[identity profile] on-her-korhal.livejournal.com 2008-07-30 05:07 pm (UTC)(link)
"Alright," she said, with a curt nod at Hoshi. "That'll be all."

It was unlikely she'd ever quite stop treating the students like soldiers.
