Kerrigan's Office, Wednesday

Kerrigan was starting to consider setting up shop permanently in her office. At least there, the chance of something happening was something greater than in her house. It had been an oasis of silence for over a year, but now it was too loud in its quiet.

She needed something to focus on, and so the door was open again, and she was sat one inch too straightly in her chair, waiting.

[ open hours! ]

"You'd have to do it without the entertainment hanging on the other side of the wall, this time," she said, with a snicker. "I'm sure your father would love to see it."

"Yeah, but he won't," Lee said, making a face. "Like he'd show up here just for that. Please."

"I could give him a call," Kerrigan said, lightly, "See how he feels."

So maybe this was fun.

"You...don't know how to contact him," Lee said, faltering just a bit but recovering quickly.

"Maybe not," she said, sounding entirely unconvinced.

"I doubt he'd spare a day anyway," Lee replied, shrugging.

"He'll probably be back at Parents' Weekend," Kerrigan said, letting the mock drop out of her tone.

"We'll see," Lee said, not really believing that. "Maybe I just won't tell him."

She rubbed at the side of her temple. "He's still your father, Lee."

"I know," he said blandly. "And I'm almost eighteen blah blah blah. My decision."

"Far be it from me to kick your ass into the post office," she acquiesced, watching him carefully.

"When he takes an interest, maybe I'll do the same," Lee retorted. "Until then, no."

[identity profile] on-her-korhal.livejournal.com 2008-07-30 05:39 pm (UTC)(link)
"I'm sorry, Lee."

That was all she got, really-- and a heavy twinge of sympathy that ran maybe a little deep.

Lee shrugged a shoulder and, after a moment of feeling sorry for himself, pasted on a smile.

"Not a big deal," he said. "Better things to do here anyway. Maybe the bears will come back and drop on people again. I could do with a few laughs."

"The island seems to have stepped up on the madness lately," she said, with a little shrug, and wondered what had happened to all of her carefully cultivated apathy over the year. "Who knows. We could step outside and rats could be raining from the sky."

[identity profile] stupid-toasters.livejournal.com 2008-07-30 05:59 pm (UTC)(link)
"Ew." Lee made a face. "I'd like to avoid that. I can handle bears. Rats are ew."

Her face twitched with a slight smirk. "Don't forget to wear a hat."

"But, I might mess up my hair," he deadpanned.
