A Backwater Planet, the Koprulu Sector, Tuesday Morning

Kerrigan crushed the hand of some hapless dead Protoss under her sharp heel without even looking twice. The field was full of bodies, and for once, their deaths weren't even on her - mostly non-existent - conscience. No, two groups of Protoss had fought here recently.

She wasn't entirely sure why, but she had a hunch it had something to do with the artifacts this planet was rumored to hold. Ah, those trusty Xel'Naga - you could always count on them to cause a good fight.

"What we were looking for here," she had to conclude, eventually, "Has already been taken."

The Hydralisk at her side turned its mindless eyes on her, goo dripping down onto her foot and sinking into the nurturing Creep below. It wouldn't be long, or much of the battlefield would be covered in it, and Kerrigan would be able to set up another base - another zerg stronghold too far out of the center of Koprulu to catch anyone's attention.

"Pity," she murmured.

[[ open for river, or for anyone who has her number, god forbid. ]]

River was frustrated. Controlling emotions had never been her strength. She picked up the head of another dead Protoss, stared into his unseeing eyes, then tossed it over her shoulder.

"Too late," she muttered.

"These little protoss are starting to get very annoying," Kerrigan agreed.

"Another strategy is needed." River stepped on a corpse, raising herself on tiptoe.

"Not yet, little River," Kerrigan said, her head tilting, the thick tendrils of her 'hair' spilling sideways. "We bide our time."

River snorted, her mind already caught up in plans, but she didn't object. She never did.

"For how long?"

More and more since her return from Fandom, Kerrigan was starting to wonder if River's obedience to her wasn't as tightly bound as it once was.

Hm. Maybe a lesson, some day. Their kind of zerg was more willful, but that didn't mean she was going to tolerate any kind of rebellion.

"Until our new broods are finished, and we've found the artifacts we're looking for," Kerrigan said.

Rebelling would mean being alone. Occasionally objecting was as far as River would go. Was that a sign of anything? If so, River wasn't paying attention to it.

"The facts of art. A game of toys."

"Of dangerous toys," Kerrigan said, "You're not of this dimension. You have no idea what these 'toys' can cause..."

"The safety of toys equals the safety of the games played with them."

She looked at Kerrigan with a tilted head.
