Now, Kerrigan sat quietly on the couch, Mustang-the-kitten making a home of her lap, and stared at the wall.

"Of course I am."

That was not a hitch in her breathing.

She steeled her eyes. "Haven't you got anywhere else to go?"

Will looked a little disappointed. "But we came here to see you! And dad says we might not be able to go flying, but I have a viper!" He waved the toy viper in front of Kerrigan. "And we're on vacation. Mom's having a bad day."

"I could use one," Kerrigan muttered. "We're all having a bad day."

"My day's not so bad," Lee said, smiling. "He really did want to see you. I didn't bring him to annoy you."

Will smiled cheerfully. "We were going flying, but now we're not, but we came to see you instead." He added: "Mommy's having a bad day."

"She wasn't really expecting you," Kerrigan murmured, leaning against the side of the door.

River had considered hiding under a bed somewhere. Part of her really wanted to. Instead she moved out into the hall, hiding behind Kerrigan. Perhaps she did have a sense of duty. "Need rest."
