General Duke's tank rolled - no, thundered - across Augustgrad's street, full of pomp and arrogance. Much like the good general himself - especially at the times that Kerrigan had loathed him most. Now, though, she could almost picture a tremor of fear passing through all the nuts and bolts; not that the man would ever acknowledge it.

"You have all performed superbly."

Hyperion was hardly neutral ground, but there were enough members of different factions here to make it... safe. Kerrigan's heels clicked against the metal plating, leaving an echo of something tinny and unnatural bouncing around the room.

Especially you, Fenix. )

"My Queen?" Duran asked, respectfully, his arms crossed lightly behind his back in his ready position. "Mengsk has taken his forces down to reestablish a foothold in the city of Augustgrad. He appears to be taking back his reigns."

Kerrigan turned her head. Her mouth curled into a ready smirk, half-meant, half-edged with bitter loathing. "Hope he knows about the Booth tactic," she said, her voice flooding with irony, and paced past the infested Terran into her chambers.

Kerrigan had been so gracious as to leave her visitors a nice room to arrive in, rather than the beautiful, dark breathing chambers of her Overlord. She had little time to waste, especially after last month, and so she cut to the chase as soon as the doors slid shut behind her guests. "The Psi Disrupter is causing me some very serious problems. Although I've regained control of my forces here, it's taking more and more concentration just to keep them in line."

My heart's breaking for you, Kerrigan... )

The square was large: so giant it could go on for full football fields in either direction. Perched near its center stood a giant statue, newly chiseled, with the features of an aristocratic, proud man-- Arcturus Mengsk-- set out with sharp, laser-burned detail.

Behind it, the spires of a dazzlingly new city reached for miles into the sky, gleaming with light. Ships shot through the air, weaving their way between them. The blue light of this planet's sun cast interesting lines on the windows.

And the square? The square was covered-- in flowers, in chairs, in people. A small platform sat in front of them, and behind it, a dais for some yet-unknown purpose.

It was a funeral, then; but for a funeral, there was a strange vibe of excitement passing through the crowds.

Death was too silent; Lee had learned about being stoic, and to Roy, this was all too familiar. )

Another day at the office.

Kerrigan tapped the code in with a sigh, pulled the door open, and went inside. She slammed it shut behind her, leaning against the surface for a few precious seconds before moving into the kitchen to get something to drink.

She should probably get to work on her suit's maintenance program.

Sarah flopped down on the couch and stayed there.

There was not supposed to be a platform here.

It had been sheer accident: a quick veer into abandoned space to get away from Confederate troops with an axe to grind. Rather than find empty space, however, they found this platform, this large, impossible space platform that held little trace of being previously occupied.

Well, except for the Warp Gate. It was kind of hard not to notice the Warp Gate. )

[ and thus we doth begin! ]
