Another day at the office.

Kerrigan tapped the code in with a sigh, pulled the door open, and went inside. She slammed it shut behind her, leaning against the surface for a few precious seconds before moving into the kitchen to get something to drink.

She should probably get to work on her suit's maintenance program.

Sarah flopped down on the couch and stayed there.

Having decided that waiting for Kerrigan to come to him was going to lead them nowhere, Roy ended up knocking on Kerrigan's door. He'd been working pretty late today, trying to figure out what measures to take for the upcoming MercCon (what was with that concept anyway?) but he'd managed to drop by his apartment to pick up some whiskey first.

It was a few moments too long before Kerrigan managed to rip herself from the couch, cheap beer still dangling between two fingers when she pulled the door open. "Hey, Roy."

"Almost thought you weren't home," Roy commented, eye moving to the beer for a moment before he held up his own bottle of whiskey. "I come baring gifts?"

"Guess that means I'll have to let you in," Kerrigan said, dryly, pushing away from the door to let him in.

"Well you could just take it and slam the door closed," Roy remarked as he moved inside before she could actually decide to do that instead. "It'd just limit your chances of getting this kind of offer again."

"I don't get enough whiskey in my diet," she shrugged, closing the door behind him. "No point in kicking out my supplier."

"Now I feel like I'm trafficking," Roy joked, moving towards the living room.

"It pays to know what it's like on the other side of the law," Kerrigan snorted. "Sit down, I'll get some glasses."

"I heard it pays really well actually," he replied as he moved to sit on the couch. "I'd still rather not, though."

She moved into the kitchen, coming out a few moments later with two whiskey glasses. "No, because then we'd have to hunt you down."

"Which would just be bothersome," Roy agreed, having already opened up the bottle. "There wouldn't be any paperwork for me, though. That's a definite plus."

Kerrigan slapped the two glasses down on the table. "Plus I don't think you'd look too good in jail dress."

"I distinctly remember you insulting my uniform this weekend," Roy replied, conveniently getting onto the topic he might have been hoping to discuss.

"I didn't insult anything," she pointed out, flopping down on the couch. "You just took it that way."

"You meant for me to take it that way," Roy pointed out, filling up her glass with a healthy shot and handed it to her.

"What, are you a mind reader now?" she asked, raising both eyebrows before taking the glass gladly.

"No," Roy replied idly, closing the bottle after he finished filling up his own glass and he slowly sat back. "Then I wouldn't have to wonder if you've been avoiding me."

"I haven't been avoiding you." The reply came immediately. Instant, even. Kerrigan cradled her glass before taking a sip.

"I suppose you wouldn't have shown up on Saturday if you were," Roy mused, considering his glass for an instant before he glanced at her. "Thank you, by the way. I know crowds aren't a favourite." Understatement.

"Nah, I hang out in a hall full of buzzing noise, idiot guys and detectives with an axe to grind for everybody I meet," she muttered.

"Mmmmmm," he sipped from his glass almost casually. "Radio did mention an encounter with one of my staff."

"Stupid brat Montoya took a swing at me." Kerrigan punctuated the point with a drink off her own glass.

Roy frowned, trying to keep his thought involving Montoya at the back of his mind. "Why?"

"Apparently I'm part of a sizable and unknowable mass of 'heroes' who are never there when they're needed," Kerrigan said, dryly. "And I don't know anything about sense of duty."

He raised an eyebrow, not sure what to make of it but he didn't know Montoya enough to understand the situation. "You've got too much duty," he told Kerrigan.
