"You have all performed superbly."

Hyperion was hardly neutral ground, but there were enough members of different factions here to make it... safe. Kerrigan's heels clicked against the metal plating, leaving an echo of something tinny and unnatural bouncing around the room.

"Especially you, Fenix."

She gave the viewscreen something that could almost be seen as a smile. The Protoss Dragoon exoskeleton was too grand in size to be comfortably housed within the bounds of this meeting chamber, but this worked just as well.

She leaned her hands down on the strategic projection unit.

"My hive clusters are brimming with energy and my broods are stronger than ever."

"Then let's waste no time!" Arcturus cried, interrupting her. "Every moment we sit here means that the UED's defenses will be that much stronger! And I want nothing to stand between us and the retaking of my planet!"

Ah. The emphasis, the assurance that Korhal was his and would always be his. Once upon a time, she would have rejoiced. Now, she saw that pitiful shell of a man for who he was.

It took her effort not to smirk. "You're right, Arcturus. The time to strike the UED is now. But remember that we're up against one of the most heavily defended planets in the sector. Laying siege to Korhal won't be easy. Not only does the UED control a substantial standing army, but may have Zerg reinforcements as well."

She didn't expect Arcturus to take that. Or to even quite listen to what she was saying. He was chomping at the bit; it was almost adorable, in some twisted kind of way.

Plucking the strings.

She tore her gaze away from him, and gave Jimmy a smile so genuine it made him take a step back. Heh.

"Raynor, you and Fenix will strike at the more outlying fortification, while my forces are busy assaulting the main UED base at Augustgrad." And River completed her own mission, in preparation for the next.

"We've discussed this plan a hundred times! Commence the damn attack!"

Oh, Arcturus.

She had to laugh. And did.

"Very well," she said. "You'll have Korhal before sunrise."

Kerrigans hands leaned gently on the fleshy bar beneath the viewscreen of her own private Overlord, a light smile set on her lips as she watched the battle unfold. Both the battle they knew, and the battle they didn't, although the latter was yet to be well and truly fought.

One more base was left-- or wait. None were left, as she watched their command centre futilly attempt to wrest its way away from the ground, up into the air. The Mutalisks overran it, blasting it into smithereens with their spores, raining death on it from afar.

Revenge was a kind mistress. She supposed Arcturus would feel that now.

She leaned, and skimmed her fingers over an edge that was a button, an instruction, a silent whisper into the hivemind to contact one man.

"Arcturus, you may take possesion of this world with my blessings," she said. Or hummed. It might as well have been a hum.

"Don't be snide, Kerrigan." He sounded... victorious. Smug. She wondered if that had been exactly how he'd have sounded shortly after he sent her to her death for his own benefit. "This was part of the deal, remember? I've earned this... I am Emperor of the Dominion again." Now, it was Arcturus who laughed, loudly, and triumphantly. "I'll be sending General Duke to establish my base of operations in Augustgrad."

She remembered Augustgrad. She remembered hopes. She remembered dreams.

For a moment, something on her insides gave way to a lurching feeling. She wanted to vomit. She wanted to slam his face into--

That was human. She was not human.

Her eyebrows lowered. She bent her head.

"I hope you make the most of your reign..." she whispered, and shut off communications. River. Think about River. Think about the plan.

"My Queen?" Duran asked, respectfully, his arms crossed lightly behind his back in his ready position. "Mengsk has taken his forces down to reestablish a foothold in the city of Augustgrad. He appears to be taking back his reigns."

Kerrigan turned her head. Her mouth curled into a ready smirk, half-meant, half-edged with bitter loathing. "Hope he knows about the Booth tactic," she said, her voice flooding with irony, and paced past the infested Terran into her chambers.
