Yesterday's meeting with River was still fresh in Kerrigan's mind. As a result, she was... thoughtful, and maybe a little distracted, adding what had been spoken about in class yesterday to her memories of the images she had been picking up over the past year or so.

Resignation and that malicious spark of hope that Zeratul had left behind fought each other in her mind. She couldn't get a grip on either, and that irritated her.

River would bring back succesful reports soon enough, she was sure of that. There would be new species of zerg. They would swallow up a great deal of her time, and then she could go hunting for xel'naga artifacts. Work this all out. Stop being party to human weakness...

Ngh. She embedded a pencil in the wall with her telekinesis and glared at it.

When it came down to it, there were only a handful of teachers who Zoe truly trusted, mainly for their years of service to the school while remaining relatively sane. Kerrigan was one of them, so when it came to the Charlie situation, it was relatively easy for Zoe to decide who to talk to. How she'd phrase it was another matter entirely.

Spotting Kerrigan in her office, Zoe went up to the doorway and knocked belatedly it seems. "Hi there," she said, smiling softly. "Do you have a moment?"

"Principal Winchester," Kerrigan recognised, sitting straight on up. "Of course. What can I help you with?"

... She may have briefly touched on Zoe's mind just to check River hadn't accidentally killed someone, or something.

"There was an...incident yesterday that I wanted to talk to you about, involving a student," Zoe said. She might still be tempted to deal with River on her own, as insane as that would be. "Her name is Charlie, and, well, it seems she's got a bit of trouble with setting fires. Without matches."

"I heard," Kerrigan said, poking at one ear in emphasis. "She was down here an hour or two ago. I've been trying to teach her a few things. The girl likes to go big."

"She really does. I was planning on asking you to speak with her, so I'm glad she was already here," Zoe said, giving Kerrigan a grateful smile. "It doesn't seem like she wants to blow the place up, and when I thought of people who might be able to help her...well, you just made sense."

"Do you want me to give her some punishment?" Kerrigan asked. She was, naturally, interested in drawing some advantage from this situation. "I've been thinking about getting her some training. Some... grip, for lack of a better word. If you want me to..."

"I don't know how much punishment she needs, but I also don't think you should go easy on her. If she hadn't blown up in the preserve, we might not have known that anything was wrong, and I can't just let that slide," Zoe said.

"I understand," Kerrigan said, easily. "I'm taking her off-island to get some of the edge off of her this weekend. I'm sure I can rustle something else up to drive home the situation."
