Her fridge had been stocked up well enough, but Kerrigan had still found herself chowing back noodles more often than not over the past few days. Cooking just wasn't her strong suit, and she lacked the inclination to learn.

Christmas Eve had passed by unnoticed.

She was in the living room, running system checks on her armor and fiddling with the wires.

The door opened quickly, revealing a faintly smiling Kerrigan. "Hey, River," she said, nodding at the hallway, "Merry Christmas. Come in."

"Merry Christmas!" River placed the present in Kerrigan's hands, then walked past her inot the hall. "You promised food."

Kerrigan nudged her fingers under the aluminium, peeling it away. She already knew what it was, of course, but it made her smile anyway.

And pull the hat over her head, mild silliness be damned. "I have some in the fridge," she said, "...Haven't cooked yet." Mostly because that might be lethal.

Looking at Kerrigan, River grinned. "Suits you. Can assist with cooking." That might not make it safer.

Kerrigan nodded, walking into the kitchen, where she pulled a box off the counter. "Uh, it's second hand..." she said, a little embarrassed, before offering it to River. "But it works."

Second hand certainly didn't matter to River. It made coffee, and it was a present from Kerrigan. She held the coffee maker close. "Useful," she said, taking a seat on a chair.

"I'd hope so," Kerrigan smiled back at her, pulling open the fridge. She glanced at the contents. "...Okay," she said. "Go wild."

River tilted her head, looking at Kerrigan. "You start," she said.

"Um..." She took some cheese out of the fridge, offering it to River.

"Good start." River rose from her chair and peered into the fridge, picking a jar of mustard. She placed that and the cheese on the worktop, then looked at Kerrigan. "Next."

Kerrigan had to bow down a little to get to the part of the fridge she was angling for. "...Bacon?"

River nodded, then added a bag of potatoes. "This is a good start. Vegetables needed though."

"Um..." she said again, trying to think, "...I've got..." More rummaging. "... A cucumber?"

River smiled and gave another nod. She found and oven dish, and began to neatly arrange the ingredients in a pattern, and finally placed the dish in the oven and turned on the heat. "Coffee while we wait?" she asked, sitting down again.

"Sure."

She wasn't, in fact, sure about this particular food experiment, but it was food, and she wasn't one to question it.

Instead, Kerrigan pottered down to the coffee maker. Coffee was always good.

Coffee was always good, River agreed, and she cheerfully accepted a cup. "Who else did you get presents?" she asked, then took a sip of the coffee.

"Nobody, really." She got her own coffee. "Probably should've, but I'm not much of a shopper."

River gave a nod, thinking that shopping would probably give Kerrigan a headache. "Me neither," she said. "I got Adah one though."

It did. Kerrigan made this quite mentally clear. "What'd you get her?"

"Necklace with a pendant in the shape of a brain," River said. She hoped it would be appreciated, but one never knew with Adah.

"Hope she likes it," Kerrigan offered, sipping her coffee again. This was really not her area. "You having a good Christmas so far?"

"Yes," River replied. "It's a Fandom Christmas." She smiled, but there was a hint of sadness. "You?"

"Not much different from any other week," she replied, loosely. It wasn't anything she wasn't used to.

"Less people and more decorations," River said, taking another sip of her coffee.

"There's that," Kerrigan allowed, shooting River a mildly self-depreciating grin. "Probably better food, too."
