Office Hours, Tuesday

Kerrigan had given up on her syllabus.

Well, okay, she hadn't given up, because she was a dogged sort of person, but it had finally found its way to a pile. It was just being worked at from a distance.

She made herself some noodles and spent a goodly period of time staring at it.

Mid-morning, River walked into the room, giving Kerrigan a small smile before heading for the coffee. Want a cup?

"Don't I always?" Kerrigan shot a slight smile back.

She always did, and it was a routine that River appreciated. She made two cups, placed one in front of Kerrigan and kept the other in her hand, sinking down into the chair opposite.

She leaned back, stirring her noodles before finally picking up her coffee. "Think if I have one more cup after this, I'll launch?" Kerrigan asked, with a smirk.

"Could try to hold you down," River replied, sipping her own coffee. She kept her barriers up around her mind to shield off what had been hurting during that past week, wanting to enjoy this visit. "Ships are preferable."

"I don't know. Nobody's tried it before." She took a sip of her java, letting it warm her hands. "Well, in my world, anyway."

"The demand might increase considerably if it became known." She chuckled. "Prices will rocket."

"Like all forms of fuel," Kerrigan snorted. "The puns alone would eat the world."

"Or drink it." River threw back her head and laughed.

Lee just happened to be in the neighborhood--

Lee was just passing by--

Lee was bored. And he hadn't been by the office in awhile so there he was, peering in and smiling.

Kerrigan raised a singular eyebrow at the doorway.

There we go again. "Adama."

"Hey," he said by way of greeting and slipped just inside. "How goes it? I haven't been by in awhile and thought maybe you missed me a little."

"Don't you have any other teachers to torture?" Kerrigan asked, in That Tone of Voice that implied she really thought he probably didn't. Or had any other kind of life whatsoever.

"Not that I like as much as you," he said, stepping further into the office. "Bad morning? No coffee? Need some chocolate?"

"I appreciate the fact that you'd come all this way just to ask me that," Kerrigan deadpanned. "But if you're here, you might as well make me some instant."

She felt it was only fair.

"You want me to make you some coffee?" he asked, amused. "Where's the stuff?"

"Behind you, on the shelf," she said, with a roll of her eyes, then reached forwards for the water cooker. "Look, I'll even press the 'heat water' button for you."

After the moment it took Adah to double-check, make sure she hadn't gotten her numbers mixed up and gone to an incorrect door, a light, evenly distributed cadence of a knock rapped quietly on the doorframe of the office.

A faint twitch in the back of her mind alerted Kerrigan to a presence before the knock even penetrated the room. "Yeah?" she asked, then added, "Come in."

The Lieutenant. Adah figured, in this instance, to consult the secondary before digging around for the primary source. It wasn't a very difficult choice to make, really, as out of weighing the hell that the stairs would wrack on her body against the headache she knew she was wont to give the Lieutenant, she'll take giving the headache. That's what they had aspirin for, right? Come in, ni emoc. Adah did that, sliding in, but staying by the doorframe, leaning heavily against it. Her eyes lifted from where her eyes directly darted toward the Lieutenant and passed, idly, around the office. Considered differences, to the only other office she'd bothered to visit, which she hadn't visited in ages, and should visit again, but not this week. There was something else to deal with first. She looked back to the Lieutenant and finally made her goal known. River. Had she seen her? Surely, if she was out-and-about today, the surrogate mother figure would have an inkling of where.

"She was here," Kerrigan commented, her tone tinged with a hint of cold. "Earlier." She shuffled through some papers; just to have something to do with her hands, really.

Adah was certainly not one to miss a hint of a tone. She quirked an eyebrow slightly; her eyes shifted toward the floor at below a book shelf. At least it appeared that no baked good were harmed in whatever bout of irrational annoyance at her that had struck River today. She sighed, looked back toward the Lieutenant. She didn't happen to mention anything about what she might be doing today, did she? Although, so far, Adah was feeling glad she still went this course; check the town next, avoid the stairs if at all possible.

"I'm not River's keeper," Kerrigan continued, pushing down hard on whatever feelings of irritation were boiling up to the surface now. She let go of the paper airplane she'd ended up fidgeting with, and rubbed her forehead with two fingers. "I don't know where she is. Might be in her room, might be in the park, might be in her ship."

And even if she did, she was feeling maybe just protective enough not to tell Adah.

Funny. Adah didn't remember suggesting that the Lieutenant was, she just remember wondering if she happened to know. Maybe this was where River got it from, this whole taking a single line of thought and building it up into something that it wasn't and getting all annoyed over it. Adah sighed, wondering if it was just something that went with the psychic territory, and gave a small nod of her head toward the Lieutenant; thanks for the time, she won't distract her from her very clearly busy schedule of little paper airplanes any longer.

And this was what had River so damn upset? "People are people," Kerrigan snapped, coolly, narrowing her eyes at the girl by the door. "Deal with it and drop the attitude."

She was about five seconds to telling the girl to piss off. Students. Be nice to the students. Don't tear the students' head off.
