25 Unicorn Street, Thursday Evening

It had been another-- well, ordinary day was something else. But it'd been a day, and Kerrigan was, as per usual, alone, rifling through her fridge looking for something that might seem remotely edible.

Her record player was softly playing some music through the house, even if she had been tired of it for a day or so after that whole... thing. It was nice, and it was quiet, and if she was contemplating an extra beer for dinner, well, that was nobody's business but hers.

"Fine." She stepped back into the hall, gesturing at the kitchen in a way that could only be defined as 'very dry'. "Go ahead."

Lee made a face and padded into the kitchen.

He'd seen maybe two kitchens in his life.

Oh boy.

River on the other hand was used to cooking, although the results tended to be rather experimental. She opened the cupboard and examined all the tins, then went through the fridge to see what she could find.

"What're we making?" Lee asked curiously. "I can make soup. Maybe."

"We are still in the process of assessing the ingredients," River informed him. "The result will possibly be soup-like." Throwing everything into one pan seemed easiest.

She handed Lee a bag of onions. "Chop these."

"She got knives?"

Lee stopped and stared at the wall.

"What am I talking about? Of course she does."

Lee proceeded to root around in the drawers until he produced a sharp enough knife to start chopping onions with.

River hummed to herself as she heated the pan, pouring some oil in and adding a seemingly random combination of spices. She then proceeded to add the chopped onion.

She gestured at a collection of tins. "Those need opening," she said. "And the cheese need grating. Only remove the mould-infected parts."

"Bossy," Lee muttered, opening some tins before going for the cheese. "The cheese shouldn't have mold on it at all."

"Still might have," River told him, ignoring the previous comment. She then started to pour the contents of the tins into the pan while stirring.

"She's a terrible shopper if her cheese had mold," Lee muttered before grabbing the cheese and examining it. "No mold."

And then he went about grating.

River said nothing, but she didn't consider 'good shopper' as one of Kerrigan's talents. Instead she resumed humming, stirring the food, which now smelled a little strange, but not exactly bad. As the cheese was finished she sprinkled it on top. "Almost finished," she said.

"What kind of soup is it?" Lee asked, peering over the edge of the pot. "Something from your home?"

River thought for a moment. "Soup with corn, baked beans, pineapple, onion and cheese. Spiced with pepper and cinnamon. I just invented it based on available ingredients." She smiled a little. "I cook at the hotel on Fridays."

"Wow." Lee blinked and tentatively sniffed the soup. "That's...a lot of flavor."

River clearly thought that was a good thing. "Less variation on Serenity. And no apples."

"Should I get bowls?" Lee asked. "And spoons?"

She nodded, then carried the pan to the table herself, placing it in the middle. "Help yourselves."

Lee gathered up what he could find for bowls and spoons and dropped them on the table with a small clang.

"She made it," Lee said. "I just chopped stuff."

"I can cook. You can't," River told him.

"I didn't say you couldn't," Lee snapped. "Did I?"

River bit her lip, glancing at Kerrigan. "We need glasses and something to drink," she said.

"I could go for some ambrosia," Lee muttered and rubbed his temple. "Or something strong like that."

Kerrigan leaned against the doorway. "You're kids," she said, dryly, "I'm not giving you any alcohol. There should be some milk."

She paused. "...But I'm not promising anything."

River glanced at Lee, remembering the after effects of the ambrosia. "Water?"

"Water's good with me," Lee said, nodding. "That milk might be curdled or green."
