Everything about her smelled like salt. She was angry, she was miserable, and she couldn't afford yet another hangover.

There were few words for how happy Sarah Kerrigan was to find her hotel room devoid of any roommates. She fell on the bed with an oomph, glared up at the ceiling, then groped sideways for the phone.

It took a couple of reroutes (and probably added a couple of mental scars to some of the poor fools she got on the phone) but eventually, she hoped, she got the line she wanted.

"I think I'm going to kill someone," she spoke into the phone, with the tone of voice of someone who had said that same line a couple of times over the past half hour, and who didn't mind communicating the sentiment again one bit.

Well, Roy had been worried when the sergeant told him who the call was from and he wasn't sure if the greeting he received was a good or a bad thing.

"And I'm supposed to talk you out of it now?" Roy asked, though he had half a mind of killing some people himself.

"No," Kerrigan returned, leaning into the mattress with a noise that communicated how satisfied she was with herself for succeeding at her aims, and at the same time, how entirely unsurprised she was at the fact. "I just figured I'd let you in on the fact before I actually do it."

"Right," he tapped his fingers on the top of his desk. "So who are you killing and should I worry about the paperwork?"

"Aly, Sokka, Lee, or possibly my roommate. I haven't chosen yet." A pause. "Although the roommate makes good coffee. How's it on your end?"

"When did you get a roommate?" Roy asked, because he had to and he wondered if he needed to get back to Fandom. "What's going on?"

This was so much easier when she actually knew what was going on in his head. "We're in Mexico," Kerrigan replied, dryly. "It's warm, it's wet, and it's full of students trying to escape drinking laws. It's Spring Break."

Spring Break. Right. "I'm sure you can control the students," Roy said easily, maybe amused by the image he was getting. "Are you enjoying the warmth at least?"

"The warmth's not bad," she admitted. "Don't tell anyone I said that."

"I could tell the Sergeant, but I don't think he particularly cares," Roy remarked and now the amusement was obvious in his voice. "So you missed me?"

"Like a bad smell," Kerrigan snorted. "So are you going to answer my question or what?"

"It's going," he assured her. "As well as can be expected. I might actually be able to get back next week."

"Corporal Eyepatch returns to Fandom's gilded shores," she smirked. "I'm sure there'll be swooning. Now what're you really thinking?"

He paused and then he was grinning. "It's killing you not knowing, isn't it?" Suddenly he liked telephones for a whole new reason.

"Oh, I have a good hunch," she retorted, a little on the prickly side. "You're see-through."

"See, but now I'm not actually being careful about what I think," Roy pointed out. "It's different now."

She took a moment to actively roll her eyes at the telephone.

Not that Roy could hear it, but it was the principle of the matter. "Yesterday, I felt Bond wasn't as good a drinking partner. Stop making me reconsider that."

"Well he's not," Roy said instantly. "He's heaps more boring than I am for one."

"At least he's agreeable," she pointed out, "Which is more than you can say."

He snorted and leaned back in his chair. "You wouldn't like me as much if I was agreeable. Isn't that what I just said anyway?"

"Only in your twisted mind," Kerrigan replied immediately. "Only in your twisted mind." Pause. "He talks a lot of bullshit."

Roy laughed. "So not just in my mind. Is he the roommate?"

"The best part is where he thinks he actually believes it," Kerrigan muttered. "No, he's not the roommate. I got the politician. Whoever worked out these room assignments must've been on serious stims."

"All men tend to," Roy said easily. "At least it isn't a mercenary?" he tried. "Though you still have my sympathy."

"At least mercenaries tend to be straightforward." She relaxed a little, and it was echoed in her voice.

"But that's all they've got going for them," Roy pointed out. "How much longer do you have to survive?"
