Everything about her smelled like salt. She was angry, she was miserable, and she couldn't afford yet another hangover.

There were few words for how happy Sarah Kerrigan was to find her hotel room devoid of any roommates. She fell on the bed with an oomph, glared up at the ceiling, then groped sideways for the phone.

It took a couple of reroutes (and probably added a couple of mental scars to some of the poor fools she got on the phone) but eventually, she hoped, she got the line she wanted.

"I think I'm going to kill someone," she spoke into the phone, with the tone of voice of someone who had said that same line a couple of times over the past half hour, and who didn't mind communicating the sentiment again one bit.

"Now I will come over there and hit you in the head," she snorted. "Shut up."

"If I shut up this will be a very boring phonecall, Sarah," he pointed out.

"It might make me feel better," she said, mostly because she was feeling contrary.

"Fine," he replied and picked up his pen to write some stuff down as he let the conversation go quiet.

Which lasted for all of thirty seconds. "Okay, it doesn't."

Roy snickered and it was probably a good thing she couldn't read just how smug he was about that. "So other than the annoying trip, everything is in order?" he asked.

"We haven't gotten attacked by giant robots yet, no," she said, with that Tone that implied she could do with a few right now.

He paused. "Is there something that makes you think that might happen soon?" he asked.

"I don't know. When was our last invasion?"

"Weren't that the dinosaurs?" Roy asked, which was a long time it seemed.

"Wasn't there for that," she reminded him, "Last one I remember was the wee knights."

"I don't think those count on account of them not being able to reach any vital organs," he pointed out.

"Hey, they did invade," she pointed out in return, "Thus technically making it an invasion."

"Point," he shook his head even if she couldn't see it. "But then we're probably over time for a serious one."

"You never know," she muttered, relaxing her spine from where it'd just gone ramrod straight.

"No," he agreed. "Give me a call if it does happen, though by the time I get there the island will probably have dealt with it already." Stupid vigilantes.

"Only if I don't deal with it first," she snorted. "Or the island doesn't shut itself off again."

"It can't shut itself off for the Sheriff," Roy said stubbornly, as if the island would listen to him.

"If an invasion comes, it'd be good having you here," she admitted, "But we'll handle anything that gets thrown at us."

"But not with as much style," he pointed out.

"I'm sure I could manage," she retorted, dryly.

"But everyone else might not," he argued. Maybe he just wanted to think that the island at least needed him for something.

"We're not exactly running big on human lighters around here," she said, with a smirk.

He sighed heavily. "You know that 'human lighter' isn't really that nice of a nickname. I can think of cooler ones."

"If the shoe fits..." she snickered. "What do you propose?"
